The FL5 Civic Type R continues where the FK8 left off by reclaiming the right to brag about FWD.

Honda’s done it once more: the 2023 Civic Type R (FL5) just smashed the front-wheel-drive lap record at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring. This hot hatch clocks in at an amazing 7 minutes, 44.881 seconds, continuing Honda’s dominance at one of the world’s most difficult racetracks.

With an upgraded chassis and improved handling, the latest Civic Type R boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces about 315 horsepower. It’s obvious that Honda’s focus on performance and accuracy is paying off handsomely.

However, Honda has dominated the ‘Ring before; the Civic Type R has consistently shattered its own record, demonstrating that it remains the standard for performance cars with front-wheel drive. In addition to its record-breaking speed, the Type R is adored by fans and auto enthusiasts all over the world for being an exhilarating vehicle to drive on both public roads and racetracks.

This most recent Nürburgring achievement from Honda serves as a reminder to everyone why the Civic Type R is still one of the most attractive hatchbacks available.
